Ever since I was a child growing up in Tehran, and a teenager living in Philadelphia, I have been fascinated by cameras and photography. I would “kidnap” my father’s camera every chance I got, and explore the world through the viewfinder. In college, I studied graphic design and fine art photography, and completely fell in love with black and white images and the magic that happens in the darkroom.
After graduation, I worked at a Philadelphia advertising agency, where I was very fortunate to assist a traditional photographer who taught me all the intracacies of using large format cameras, who instructed me in the nuances of studio photography, and who helped me master high end retouching. With this inspiration, I created a photography blog and challenged myself to produce new work every day. It was there that I developed a passion for landscape photography, which was easily indulged in the beautiful, seasonal surroundings of the East Coast.
In 2010 I moved to San Diego and launched my freelance photography career in earnest, focusing on personal and corporate portraits, lifestyle people imagery, and editorial food photography. Among other outlets, my editorial photography work regularly appears in About Town Magazines, where I am fortunate to photograph the creations of some of the San Diego area’s top executive chefs as well as many of the products and lifestyle shots featured in the magazine. It gives me great pride when the subjects of my photos and those featured in the magazine often ask to purchase additional copies of the photos I have taken, to use in their own promotional campaigns.
In my portrait work, I always strive to help my clients take their personal and professional journeys to higher levels, feeling and looking their best, and projecting confidence.
Photography has given me a multi-dimensional view of my subjects and surroundings, has nurtured my ability to discern a world of emotions in every-day scenery, and to let a portrait subject’s best personality shine through.
